The council itself confirms this is a five-figure scandal. As of September 19th, the estimated value of officer time spent on my case alone stands at £11,411.59—and that was before the latest batch of complaints was closed.

To put this in perspective: I account for over 60% of the small number of cases the council even bothered to investigate due to lack of any merit whatsoever (20 out of 33)! Yet, the result is always the same: ZERO UPHELD COMPLAINTS.

They are wasting five figures of public money to produce a public report that effectively says: “Councillor Grimes did nothing wrong.”

This campaign isn’t just harassment; it’s designed to waste council staff time that should be spent on essential local services—like care for our most vulnerable residents, not complaints from those who may not even live here.

My response is a robust counter-strike, not a defence. I am using this entire scandalous process to force a constitutional change that will protect all members—and the public purse—from this kind of vexatious abuse in the future.

My proposed Free Speech Amendment confirms what the law already says: robust political debate is the basis of democracy, and a degree of “immoderate, offensive, shocking or provocative expression, is acceptable”. The liberal-left are legally required to have “thicker skins.” Given the flying our flag is today shocking to them, we need these protections in place.

They tried to cancel me, and I forced them to enshrine Free Speech in the local constitution. You couldn’t make it up.
