Reform County Durham Moves To BLOCK New Migrant Homes
The open-borders mob and their activist lawyers are furious that we're putting local people first. Good.
They think you’re stupid.
They think you won’t notice. They believe if they bury it in enough council jargon and bleed the fight out of you with death-by-committee, you’ll just roll over and accept it.
They think you’ll quietly watch as a solid family home on your street—a home like yours, where a family should be raising their kids—gets gutted and turned into a multi-occupancy barracks, crammed to the rafters.
They think you’ll just tut, maybe moan to a neighbour, and then get on with it as the character of your community is erased, street by street.
This open-borders Labour Government has made a grave miscalculation. Especially here in County Durham. Because we’ve noticed. And we are not going to be quiet about it.
For too long, a nasty little loophole in planning law has been used as a backdoor to fundamentally change our towns. It allows developers to buy up three or four-bed family homes and convert them into small Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) for up to six occupants without needing proper planning permission. It’s called ‘permitted development’. A better name for it would be ‘state-sanctioned social vandalism’.
And let’s not be shy about who this is for. While our own young people can’t get a foot on the housing ladder, these properties are being snapped up by landlords who know they can make a mint by packing them with tenants, often migrants shipped in from all corners of the globe, courtesy of Westminster’s catastrophic border policies.
The result? Your street becomes unrecognisable. A wall of noise, a war for parking spaces, and a mountain of overflowing bins become your new normal. But it’s worse than that. So much worse.
It’s about the erosion of safety. The sense that you can no longer let your kids play out with the same peace of mind. The feeling that our women and girls must walk with a little more fear in their hearts.
This isn’t project fear. This is the lived, brutal reality of these policies. In just the last few weeks, we’ve seen the horror stories unleashed by this madness. A Nigerian migrant jailed for rape in Gloucester. A Sudanese deviant in Stockport charged with trying to snatch a ten-year-old girl from next to her father. A Yemeni asylum seeker in Plymouth caught with grotesque child abuse videos, who walked away with a suspended sentence. Two Afghan asylum seekers charged with the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in a sleepy English town.
This is the rotten fruit of the open-borders tree. And this open-borders Labour Government, with its chorus of activist lawyers, would rather bleed about the ‘human rights’ of these predators than the right of a British child to be safe in her own country.
Well, here in County Durham, the fightback has begun.
As your Reform UK-led administration, we are on the side of your priorities. We are drawing a line in the sand.
🚨 We have launched a county-wide consultation on an Article 4 Direction. 🚨
That’s our weapon. It’s an iron fist that gives us the power to obliterate the loopholes. If this passes, EVERY SINGLE new HMO conversion will require full planning permission. It means we, your local council, can look at the evidence, listen to your concerns, and have the power to just say NO.
It means the people of County Durham, not faceless bureaucrats in London or greedy landlords, get to decide what our streets look like.
This open-borders mob will hate it. They will scream. They will call us every name under the sun. Let them. I’d rather be called a bigot by a lefty lawyer than have to look a constituent in the eye and tell her I can’t do anything to keep her street safe.
This is where you come in. We have until September 26th to create a political firestorm they cannot ignore. I need you to swamp this consultation. I need you to lend your voice to this cause. Tell them you support the Article 4 Direction to stop migrant HMOs.
This isn’t just about planning. It’s about whether we have the right to defend our homes, our communities, and our British way of life. It’s about who this country is for.
It's time to remind them.

Well done Darren, your doing exactly what you promised to do, your serving your area very well, they must be so happy your doing everything you can to stop this from happening, I wish I had councillors like you, Blackburn wouldn’t be the hell hole it is now. Keep going, we need people like you
Fantastic Darren! Over on Coffee and Covid, Jeff Childers often says the fightback starts at local grassroots level and you are proving him right. Wish we had councillors like you where I live, they're just beginning to dump migrants on us and local idiots are cheering it on 🤦♀️
